Former Black Stars Striker Calls For Essien Return
Former Ghana international, Godwin Attram feels Michael Essien should be recalled into the Black Stars after recovering from injury and is now playing regularly for Panathinaikos.
The 32-year-old midfieler has managed to play successive games for the Greek giants after putting his injury woes behind him. Essien was unable to play for Panathinaikos when he first arrived as a big name signing in the summer due to successive injuries that robbed the Ghana international making his debut for the Greek club until only last month.
“Football is all about strength and mental toughness,” Attram said.
Attram, who captained Accra Great Olympics to relegation in the 2014/15 FCPPL season added, “So if he has regained his fitness and is performing well at his club, I don’t think it is a problem. “We need these old players to guide the youngsters with their experience so I see no reason why the doors to the national team be closed to him.”
Michael Essien was however tagged as one of the ‘rebels’ that played a leading role in wrecking Ghana’s campaign at the 2014 World Cup over a bonus row.
