The vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has brushed off claims that the continual delay of the Ghana Premier league has an effect on the chances of players in the local scene getting national team call-up.
Ghana Premier League was primed to start on December, 20 last year, but legal tussles between clubs and the FA has delayed the commencement of the league.
In 2014, a similar situation denied home-based players the opportunity to catch the eye of Black Stars Avram for tbe 2015 Africa Cup of nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Many have blamed the lack of competitive football in the local scene, but George Afriyie believes no matter where one finds himself, he is Ghanaian and deserves a place in the national team should the team deem him good enough.
“Normally I don’t want to separate or differentiate between who is a local player or who is a Black Stars player,” George Afriyie told sportscrusader.
“Every Ghanaian who is an active player and playing competitive football any where in the world can play for the Black Stars.
“So if he is in Ghana and he is good player, like Samuel Tetteh who was called up for national assignment, so be it.”
The date for the commencement of the league should be confirmed by Friday.
