FIFA retired referee, Joseph Wellington has warned clubs to stop bribing referees or risk being reported to the Ghana Football Association for inducement.
Referees in the country has always been accused of walking into the pitch with match results in their pocket due to due to inducement from club officials.
The incessant allegations and attacks has marred the beauty of the game, and for that to pave way for the game to be played in competitive spirit, the CAF referee instructor has admonished that football administrators desist from the act or face the full rigours of the law.
“Bribery destroys the beauty of the game so I’m calling on all those who are into that business to desist from and use approved means to win matches,” Joseph Wellington told Happy FM.
Joseph Wellington also added that officiating is a hobby and not a business, and that referees will this year resist bribes from club officials.
“Referees are ready to resist any attempts to have them influence match results and have been told report those behind the act.
“Refereeing is a hobby and not a business; we have members who are policemen, immigration officers, teachers and big business men and women who are well to do in life and do not live on refereeing.
“So people with the notion that referees are not well to do, should have a rethink.” He said.
