I Don"t Mind Working Under Felix Abayatei- Osei Palmer

Ghana FA Executive Committee member and Club President of Division One League side Tema Youth Football Club, Mr. Wilfred Osei Palmer, has expressed delight at the prospect of working under renowned Journalist Mr. Felix Abayatei who has been assigned as the Deputy Chairperson of the newly constituted Media Committee of the Football Association.

It is a convention at the GFA that whenever two or more members of the Executive Committee are serving on a sub-committee of the country’s football governing body, One chairs and the another deputizes.

However, the Ghana Football Association, this year, have defiled that normal practice to appoint an outsider in Felix Abayatei to serve as deputy of the committee with Albert Commey, an Executive Committee member as the Chairman of the Media Committee despite the presence of Wilfred Osei Palmer and Kurt Okraku who are both members of the Executive Committee.

But speaking in an interview with Accra based Happy FM, Mr. Wilfred Osei Palmer disclosed that the Executive Committee members serving on the Media Committee are placed there for strategic reasons and therefore he has no issue serving under non-ExCo member, Felix Abayatei.

“We were put there [Media Committee] for strategic reasons. Reasons are that, there could be issues that bother on financial matters and so we are put thereto perform specific roles” Mr. Palmer said.

He added that: “When you look at the Felix Abayatei’s pedigree within the media landscape, I dont see anything wrong with him being the deputy Chair of the committee. He is well experience, well exposed and can lecture me so long as media issues are concern. I am even happy to serve under Abayatei rather than him serving under me.

“If he [Abayatei] is to serve under me, I wouldn’t be comfortable under that circumstance. There are some people who have built a very good profile for themselves and if they rise up to such a level, they must be commended and so I won’t begrudge the FA for making Felix the Vice Chair. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that decision” Osei Palmer concluded.
