New Edubiase to Withdraw From GPL if........

Ghana Premier League side New Edubiase United will withdraw from the Ghanaian top flight if the organizers fail to secure a headline-sponsor after three matches, according to their club President  Abdul Salam Yakubu.

According to Abdul Salam, the financial burden on the 16 participating clubs need proper and careful examination as they cannot continue playing without money.

“Some clubs have not paid their players for close to eight months while others have not even paid the signing-on fees of their new players. But we are told to start the league,” He told Nyira FM in an interview.

“For us, we will start the league but if after three matches no sponsor comes on board to rescue us, I will advice myself and my club,” he added.

First Capital Plus Bank, the headline sponsors of the Ghana Premier League decided to put on hold their sponsorship of the league at the end of last season citing restructuring as the reason.

The Ghana Football Association has however remained adamant that the 2015/2016 league will soon have a sponsor on board.

But it appears the President of New Edubiase wants all negotiations to be done quickly to relief the clubs of their heavy financial burden.

A goal from substitute Samuel Yeboah ensured that New Edubiase United lost their league opener to Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
