The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr. Joseph Ade Coker has stated that, the appointment of Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo Constituency Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye as the Minister of Youth and Sports is long overdue.
According to Mr. Ade Coker, the newly appointed Sports Minister should have been put in charge of the ministry since 2009 when the late President His Excellency John Evans Atta Mills took over as the Head of State of Ghana.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station Asempa FM; the former Accra Great Olympics boss stated that his party is not short of men with immense knowledge about Ghana Sports citing Nii Lantey as an example.
According to Mr. Ade Coker, the frequent in change of ministers at the Ministry of Youth and Sports is as a result of lack of ideas about the sector by respective persons who have been in charge in recent past.
“Nii Lantey has been in Sports for long and I believe his appointment is long overdue” he said.
“He should have been appointed as the Sports Minister when we [NDC] first came to power under His Excellency President Mills [the late]. He has worked in and around the sporting fraternity for a long time in different capacities and there is no doubt he is the ideal man for the job” Mr. Ade Coker added.
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama appointed Nii Lantey Vanderpuje as the new Youth and Sports Minister following a ministerial re-shuffles earlier last month.
