Not All Ghanaian Coaches Are Bad - Oti Akenteng

Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Oti Akenteng has jumped to the defence of Ghanaian coaches refuting the claims by many that they are incompetent and not fit enough to handle premier league clubs.

Many Ghanaian coaches have been brandished names and even been accused of a major contributing factor to the swift decline of the football here in Ghana. The premier league that used to attract thousands to even the smallest of stadia is now struggling to attract just hundreds to league venues and the blame game has been on-going with some school of thought blaming the GFA, clubs, referees and recently coaches.

But Oti Akenteng with his vast experience of coaching with national teams and in the league with big clubs – Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashgold has rebuffed those views believing coaches like all other human institutions have both good and bad nuts.

In an interview with Kumasi based Boss fm, “Like all jobs there those who excel, the average coaches and those who are always below par and it is same with the coaches as well.”

“Formerly Ghanaian coaches had no license to justify their competence but the recent CAF license course has helped categorise them and helped identify the right coaches and those who are not competent enough to manage a club.”
