Christianity And African Traditional Religion (Nana Speaks)

Traditionally, Christianity is considered a Whiteman’s religion. Those who hold this view also assert that the bearers of this religion have not only imposed their religion on Africans but have also succeeded in destroying African culture.

For centuries, African Traditional Religion in its myriad of forms was practiced by the majority of Africans, but in the last fifty years Christianity has become more prominent. West Africa contains the largest populations that are still following African Traditional Religion.

Even among the population of Christians, there is a group which can only be described as hypocritical because these Christians still patronize African Traditional Religion, especially in times of emergency. This means that African Traditional Religion still has an element of  influence, especially in moments of crisis.

In Africa, especially among royalty, i.e Chiefs and the like, it is believed that these group of people are traditionalists and that you cannot be a Chief or Nana without dabbling in traditionalism.

In this Video, Nana, who has been ruling her people for 40 years talks about her faith and the communion.
