Ashanti Gold were held to a fourth successive draw in the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League, when they hosted Aduana Stars on Saturday.
Bright Adjei’s late sensational finish cancelled Osei Baffour’s first half goal from 12-yards to ensure the defending champions continue to struggle to exert their presence in this year’s league.
An even game was marred by hefty tackles by both teams as they struggled to have the game under control.
AshGold incursions were difficult to be controlled by Aduana Stars back line, and their probing questions, and one of those was not answered when a swift inter-positional play between Tijani Joshua and Bright Adjei sent the latter on goal.
His attempted cross found the hand of Godfred Saka according to referee Cecil Fletcher though replayed said otherwise. Emmanuel Osei Baffour took responsibility and stroke the ball past Stephen Adams.
Aduana Stars resumed play, and began knocking at the doors of AshGold, but Yahaya Mohammed was a disappointment in front of goal. He blazed opportunities that were hard to come by into the air.
And AshGold held on the slender lead into dressing room.
A more tactical and hard working Aduana Stars took control of proceedings and were destined to pull a super come-back, but as they looked anxious in front of goal.
Talisman Yahaya Mohammed chose the turf to gain referee’s sympathy instead fighting for balls – wasting the end the product of his hard working teammates.
AshGold also had opportunities to cushion their lead, but poor finishing inspired more as they believed they could snatch a point.
That believe paid dividends on the few seconds into the 90th minute when a poking pass from Noah Martey into AshGold’s box found the Bright Adjei whose bicycle kicked powered went beyond Robert Dabuo, and into the net.
And Aduana Stars leaves Obuasi with a hard fought point, extending AshGold’s drawn games to four on the trot.
