Nike Suspends Contract With Sharapova

The most paid female athlete in the world Maria Sharapova has had her contract suspended by her kits sponsor Nike.


The five time grand slam winner on Monday admitted how she use performance enhancing drugs that was banned earlier this January by the World Anti Doping agency with conjunction with International Tennis Federation.


A statement released by Nike read ” “We have decided to suspend our relationship with Maria while the investigation continues,We will continue to monitor the situation.” the company said saddened and surprised” at her admission that she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open in January”.


 


Sharopova who signed by Nike at the age of 11 admitted that she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open in January.


In 2010, the 28-year-old tennis player signed a new eight-year contract with the US sportswear giant worth $70m as well as a cut on sales of her own branded clothes.


There is an expectation of lengthy ban to be handed of over to Sharapova by the ITF very soon.
