Kumasi Asante Kotoko laboured to beat 10-mam A.K. Shion in a penalty shoot out at the Sunyani Coronation Park in their Round of 64 MTN FA Cup encounter.
Frank Sarfo Gyamfi’s first half strike was cancelled out with seven minutes by Francis Osei Assibey, as the Porcupine Warriors failed to close out the game.
Eric Ofori Antwi who has lost his place as first choice goalkeeper to Ernest Sowah was inoutstanding form from the start of the shootout, as he saved two penalties to win it for Kotoko.
The 2015 MTN FA Cup finalist struggled to break down the Division Two side in the game and had to wait until the 38th minute to find a way through the stubborn A.K Shion defence.
Frank Sarfo Gyamfi cut open the defensive wall of A.K Shion before beating the goalkeeper from close range. The Porcupine Warriors seem to have gained control of the game, but A.K Shion proved too good to bow to Kotoko.
A.k Shion grabbed the second half by the net, and forced Kotoko on the back foot. The Division Two side drew circles around Kotoko for fun, but the end product was not what they were doing on the pitch.
The woodwork also denied them as Ofori Antwi was well beaten in a very dangerous move. With 25 minutes to play A.k Shion were reduced to 10-men after some dangerous play on the part of one of their players.
They were knocked off the perking order and fought gallantly. Their hard work was rewarded with an equaliser with seven minutes to play. They held on to penalties, but the brilliant Eric Ofori droved them out of the competition, saving two kicks.
