Head coach of Dreams FC, Charles Kwabena Akunnor has poured cold water on talks that the pedigree of Kumasi Asante Kotoko could be a factor in Wednesday’s league fixture between the two.
The league debutants have been in blistering form in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, and sit in third position on the log with 14 points after seven games.
Their encounter with Asante Kotoko on Wednesday will be their biggest home match at Dawu so far this season and will look to cause a few problems for the Porcupines who have lost all their away games.
The anchormen in the thick of things for Dreams FC are nursing injuries and will require a late fitness test before the team lines up against the record league champions, but C.K Akunnor as he is affectionately called is not perturbed.
“We have one or two injury situations but by Wednesday, we will see how it goes. If they are fit, hopefully they will be involved otherwise we have a Plan B,” the ex-Hearts of Oak coach said prior to the game tomorrow.
After a series of dreadful results in the first seven games of the season, Kotoko, heads to Dawu on the back two wins in their last two games (League and FA Cup), scoring five and conceding only one.
But C.K Akunnor is adamant his boys will not be intimidated.
“There is no fear but we are aware of the threat and pedigree Kotoko possess. They are no small team and we expect big numbers who will want to make it difficult for us.
“We respect that but we are not intimidated,” he added.
Dreams FC shocked defending champions, AshantiGold 1-0 at the Obuasi in their last league game, and a lot is expected from his side; but, the former Ghana captain explained that every match is a game on its own which needs a different approach.
“Every match presents a different situation which demands different characters so we enter every match with a different approach.
“The game against AshantiGold was different, the atmosphere was different. We have made the players aware of this and I am sure the experienced ones know that already.
“The preparations are different but we enter every game with all seriousness.”
“Kotoko will come wanting to win, we will also want to win but the better side on the day will win,” he noted.
Dreams are unbeaten at Dawu so far picking up two wins and a draw in the three games they have played.
