Veteran Ghana defender, John Paintsil has ruled out a return to club football in the Ghana Premier League.
The 34-year old for Fulham man is currently without a club after he was refused a contract renewal by South African club Maritzburg United at the beginning of this season.
Speaking in an interview with Accra based Joy FM, the former Black Stars trusted right back attributed his decision to the poor treatment handed out to his colleagues who returned to the Ghana league in recent time.
“When I came to Ghana at the end of last year, I granted interviews saying that I will be coming down to play for a local team before I hang my boots,” he told Joy Sports.
“But I am going to disappoint a few people or my fans because I am not going to do that anymore.”
“For me, I like to learn from experience. I started here and wanted to end here.
“Some of my colleagues came down to play for local but they weren’t treated well, so I don’t want to get myself into this position.
“We have served the nation, we have done well so we need to keep that respect and continue where we have to continue to become somebody in future for the nation.
“My senior colleagues who came to end their career in Ghana are not happy”, he added.
Players like Laryea Kingson, Godwin Attram and Baba Amando have all returned to play in the Ghana League in recent past where as others such as Eric Bekoe and Sadick are still enjoying their time in the Ghanaian top flight.
Paintsil played for Berekum Arsenal and Liberty Professionals in the Ghana Premier League before traveling to continue with his career abroad.
He has since played in Israel, England and recently South Africa.
