CAF Confederation Cup Preview : Medeama SC Vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Medeama SC face an uphill task as they have to overturn a 3-1 deficit when they host Mamelodi Sundowns in the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup playoff tomorrow at the Essipong Sports Stadium.

Medeama

Medeama are hoping to avoid the heartbreak of 2014 when they lost to AC Leopards on penalties at this same stage.

After AWOL coach Tom Strand left in a dramatic faction, Technical Director of Medeama SC, Augustine Adotey has expressed confidence of overturning the deficit especially after securing an away goal in the first leg tie.

The Ghanaian side took an early led in the first leg but hopes of qualification was dashed in the final 10 minutes of the first leg as they conceded three late goals in losing 3-1.

Sundowns

The Brazilians were crowned Absa Premiership champions on Wednesday evening following their 3-0 win over the University of Pretoria.

Sundowns’ CAF Champions League dream came to an end in the final round of qualifying, having lost to AS Vita on the away goals rule.

Colombian striker, Leonardo Castro missed the win over AmaTuks through suspension, and is expected to return to the side to face Medeama.

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane highlighted the threat of the away goal Medeama has and said in his post press conference.

“Medeama had a goal in South Africa and that is a great headache to us, that away goal is a great advantage for them. They will try to make good use of it in the second leg and that is a problem.
