Triumphant Baffoe Targets Rio Ticket In Weightlifting

Ghana’s sole female representative at the ongoing Africa Weightlifting qualification championship in Cameroon , Ruth Baffoe, has switched her attention to the Rio Olympic Games after winning three bronze medals.

The imposing Ghanaian female record holder stormed her way to the podium after lifting the 69kg snatch and 82kg and jerk.

The ambitious weightlifter missed out on the automatic slot to Rio despite her treble of medals but remains optimistic Ghana will be represented as a team in the multifaceted sporting gathering in the men category.

The Ghanaian rued her truncated training programme ahead of the qualification but drew consolation from her medal haul as she returns to concentrate on her chosen career.

“I had little time to train and I know if I had enough preparations, I would have won a gold medal,” she lamented.

Qualification for the Rio showdown will be sourced from team performances where the top five countries from the continent will join the plane to Rio, Brazil, for the global gathering in August.
