Vice President of New Edubiase United Football Club, Alex Akumey is adamant his side will not be relegated despite their poor start to the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season.
The Yenkokoaa boys are 12th on the league table after 10 matches, and fears are that the former MTN FA Champions will not retain their Premier League status.
But Alex Akumey, who recently became Vice Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), is adamant they will still be a Premier League club at the end of the season.
“We are not a big club in Ghana so don’t expect us to win the league. If we win the league, it’s an extra bonus,” he told Kumasi-based Boss FM.
“Even in Europe there are average teams. We don’t have huge budget to attract massive crowds like other teams have drawing 20,000 and 40,000. Some of the clubs like Great Olympics that had good budget are even relegated.
“Appreciate us when we are able to finish 12th or 13th in the league because that’s where we deserve. Look at the players we are producing in Ghana.
“We sign players from lower tier leagues to make them stars after two or three seasons so don’t expect us to win the league or finish fourth,” Akumey added.
He also revealed that the target of the club is to end the season as a Premier League side.
“Our ultimate target is to avoid relegation and stay in the top flight and we are working towards achieving that,” he said.
