Relegation threatened New Edubiase had their misery compounded by Liberty Professionals after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat in their outstanding Ghana Premier League week 13 encounter on Monday.

A goal at the dying embers of each half ensured that the the home side amassed all three points at stake as they continued their impressive run of form at the Carle Reindorf Park in Dansoman with Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan sitting in the stands.

Midfielder Edward Ebo Mends gave the Scientific Soccer lads the lead on the stroke of half time with inform forward Bernard Arthur adding a second in the 90th minute.

The game started on a boring note with both teams struggling to create chances in the final third of the opponent half.

However, it was Liberty Professionals who came close to scoring in the 25th minute when winger, Issah Shaibu forced Edubiase keeper Benjamin Mensah to make the first real save of the afternoon with a ferocious left foot strike.

Latif Blessing also had a great opportunity to add to his 9-goal tally when he was teed up by Bernard Arthur but he managed to missed from 2-0 yards out when scoring was the easier option.

With the game  heading to half time, Ebo Mends took matters into his hands and his effort from 35-yards found the left bottom corner of the net to give Liberty the lead.

Asamoah Gyan addressed the Liberty players during the half time break, promising them an undisclosed amount should they win the match.

That Spurred the home side on as they started the second half a much improved side with the likes of Latif Blessing and Gerald Arkson dictating the pace in midfield.

Blessing on the 53rd minute tried to catch the Edubiase keeper off guard with a great lob from outside the penalty area but the keeper pulled a great save to divert the ball out for a Liberty corner.

The game settled down and New Edubiase gradually found their rhythm with an array of attacks but the home side remained resolute in defense.

Liberty on few occasions tried to catch Edubiase on the break and in the process created some decent scoring opportunities, most of which came the way of Bernard Arthur who failed to make them count.

The inform forward however had the final bite of the cherry scoring with a great volley from just outside the box to seal the victory for Liberty.
