Medeama Are A "Typical Ghanaian Team" - Sundowns Coach

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane has tagged CAF Confederation Cup opponenets, Medeama SC a ‘typical Ghanaian Team’ as the two sides get ready to meet for the first time on Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Medeama booked their place in the playoff round of the competition with wins over Al-Ittihad Tripoli and Al-Ahly Shendi. Mosimane has been closely monitoring the Tarkwa based side, reserving special praise for their style of play.

SPeaking after ‘the Brazilians’ as Sundowns is nicknamed had been crowned Premier Soccer League (PSL) Champions, Mosimane said, “Medeama are a typical Ghanaian team – technical, build up from the back,” said Mosimane. “They have a player – number five – a central midfielder – he is the man who makes them play, switches the ball left and right, terrific from set-pieces.

“Their wingers, they play a little bit narrow to create space for the fullbacks, a typical Ghanaian team – they play, they play, they play. We have to make sure we recover the ball as quick as possible because they are ball-players. They don’t kick and fight, they play good

football.

Medeama have been marred by off field troubles with reports suggesting Ghana Football Association Technical Director Oti Akenteng stepped in to take over from Tom Strand – after he reportedly went AWOL following the clubs 3-0 league defeat to Aduana Stars in March.

The Ghanaian Super Cup winners, though, have dismissed reports that Strand failed to travel with the side to Tshwane and the Swedish coach is expected to man the sidelines this weekend.

The two-time Ghana FA Cup champions finally arrived in South Africa on Friday morning and are set to hold a single training session before the match on Saturday. The reverse fixture is set for 17/18 May.
