English Club Signs Ex-Convict

English League One side Chesterfield has announced the signing of Wales forward Ched Evans on a one-year deal.

Evans, who is currently a free agent, will join up with manager Danny Wilson and the first-team squad for pre-season training in preparation for the 2016/17 campaign.

The former Sheffield United striker faces a retrial over rape allegations in October.

Evans was jailed for five years in 2012 after being found guilty of raping a woman, 19, at a hotel near Rhyl, Denbighshire.

He was released from prison in October 2014 after serving half of his term.

Evans, who has always maintained his innocence, has since had his conviction quashed.
