Sunyani district girls’ team went the extra mile to win the Brong Ahafo Regional U-13 Cricket tournament by 2 wickets in a ‘Super Over’ against Chiraa district.
The Tournament which was the first of its kind in the Brong Ahafo region had 4 districts participating with both girls and boys at the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) on Wednesday, June 8.
Sunyani district after winning the toss, decided to field first which allowed Chiraa to scored, 85 runs, 3 wickets in 15 overs.
The game traveled to Super over after Sunyani also made 85 runs, 8 wickets in 15 overs.
Chiraa then had their innings in the Super over and scored 8 runs, No wicket in 1 over while Sunyani made 9 runs, No wicket in 1 over, winning by the last ball.
The two finalist qualified for the finals after beating Nsoatre and Berekum respectively.
In the boys division, Nsoatre District defied all odds and made history after defeating Chiraa district by 8 runs, after the latter fielded first. Nsoatre scored 72 run, 4 wickets in 10 overs as against Chiraa’s 64 runs, 4 wickets in 10 overs.
The straight Knockout to finals saw the eventual winners, Nsoatre district beating Berekum while Sunyani district lost to Chiraa.
The tournament was witnessed by the Regional Education director, Regional PE Coordinator and teachers from the various schools in the region.
After the event, Secretary of the Brong Ahafo Regional Cricket Association, Elijah Kwesi Yeboah expressed delight at the level of interest the children exhibited in the tournament to the extent that children didn’t want to close even after the matches have ended.
