The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kwesi Nyantekyi has stated that the MTN FA Cup competition provides an opportunity for young talents to be unearthed in all parts of the country.
According to him, the MTN FA Cup is one of the most important features on the Ghana Football calendar, describing it as comprehensive as it encompasses three tiers of the country’s football structure.
Speaking at the Grande Launch and Round of 64 Draw of the 2015/2016 MTN FA Cup at the MTN Head Quarters in Accra, Mr. Nyantekyi stated that, but for the MTN FA cup, clubs in the lower tiers of Ghana Football will not have an opportunity to showcase their talent on television.
“The MTN FA Cup is one the most important competitions of the football Association. Not only comprehensive but the largest. It encompasses the participation of all three tiers of football divisions we have- namely the Premier Division, the First Division and the Second Division [Regional Leagues]”, Mr. Nyantekyi noted.
“The most interesting thing about it is the surprises that are usually produced.
“At that level it provides a brilliant or an excellent opportunity for young football talents to be unearthed.
“Without the FA Cup competition, second division clubs and to a large extent first division clubs will not get the platform to show case their talent on television and for the viewership of all of us”, He added.
The GFA President also stated that through the competition, the FA has been able to identify talents to play in the junior national teams.
