It Is My Destiny To Win A World Title – Richard Commey

Ghana’s Richard Commey (24-0, 22 KOs) has said it is his destiny to win a boxing world title to compensate for the hard work he has put into his chosen career over the years.

Commey will challenge Robert Easter Jr (17-0, 14 KOs) of the United States for the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) world Lightweight title on September 9 at the Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The hard-hitting Ghanaian said he has been patiently waiting for this opportunity to fight for a world title and is ready to fulfill a childhood dream of becoming a world boxing world champion.

“It is my destiny to bring the belt back home to Ghana and I will do whatever it takes to win this one” the undefeated 29 year-old told boxingscene.com.

Commey is the mandatory challenger for the vacant title and said: ‘’It feels great to be finally fighting for a world title, and come fight night I will be fully prepared come what may.’’

the former Ghana, Commonwealth and IBF Intercontinental champion, is putting in final preparations for this bout as he makes his second appearance in the United States.

‘’This opportunity means everything to me, it is for all the hard work my team and I have put in over the last six years. This is what we started out to achieve, and when I win, it will be a great feeling to know we have reached our goal’’ he added.

His opponent on fight night will be the 25 year-old Ohio-native Easter Jr, who has earned his shot at this level following a series of impressive KO victories in recent times, including the show stealing fifth-round stoppage of Argenis Mendez last April in Washington.

Commey rates him very highly, saying “he’s a very good boxer and I have the utmost respect for him as I do for all my opponents but that won’t count for nothing when the bell rings.’’

Be Discipline Discipline If You Want To Be A Successful Boxer - GBA Boss To Ghanaian Boxers

President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Peter Zwennes told young boxers to be discipline if you they want to reach the peak of their career.

The boxing field has many promising talents to make it at the highest level, but Peter Zwennes says talent is not enough to be a successful boxer.

Ghana has not had a world champion since Joseph Agbeko won the IBF Bantamweight champion in against Perez Yonnhy.

Peter Zwennes is unhappy with the development considering the talents available and has sent them an advice.

“I keep telling people to be a world champion, it is not just a matter of talent. You need a lot of discipline. I use Azumah Nelson as an example,” Peter Zwennes told Joy FM.

“He was not just a champion, he kept the title for so many years. You may be good, you may become a champion, but without discipline in no time you will lose that title.”

Richard, Dogboe, Tagoe and Lawson are the notable names are resonates hope and the boxing fraternity believes they will give Ghana a world title.
