Sportscrusader.com Lower Leagues Team Of The Week

The Sports Crusader Lower Leagues Team of the Week is an initiative introduced by the fastest growing sports web portal in Ghana to demonstrate how Ghanaian players perform for their various clubs abroad.

To set the records straight, as we have always done, players are selected based on the following criteria:

1.The Coefficient of the league they play

Alongside the bony framed Liefering forward upfront are Clifford Aboagye and Jonathan Opoku in a dreaded attacking trio.

At the middle of the pitch are Divine Naah, Richard Boateng and Derreck Boateng in a 4-3-3 flexible system that has Bright Addae, Nuru Sulley, Isaac Donkor and Maxwell Acosty in the back four.

Goalkeeper Razak Braimah maintains his place between the sticks despite his 1-0 defeat with Cordoba over the weekend.

Moses Odjier stole the headlines for the wrong reasons after his expulsion from Salernitana’s 3-1 win over Livorno in the Serie B. The pocket size however had done enough to steer his side further away from the drop.

Jonathan Opoku took his season tally to 13 in a 1-0 win for VV Venlo in the Dutch Erste league. The rampant forward has been partnered upfront with Erixon Danso and Richmond Boakye Yiadom.

At the middle of the pitch are Derreck Boateng, Albert Adomah and Dennis Agyare Antwi for the lower league based Ghanaian players.

Razak Braimah enjoyed spectacular outings for Cordoba between the sticks to keep alive their promotion hopes in the Spanish Segunda division.

Adam Larson Kwarasey remains sidelined for Portland Timbers in the MLS but lack of goal keeping rivals means he will keep his place between the sticks on his possible return next week for the Timbers.

In front of him however will be a new looking back four that has Daniel Opare and Baba Rahman as Wing-backs whiles John Boye returns to partner Nana Asare at the heart of the defense. Opare steered Augsberg to an unlikely victory at the Volswagen Arena on his third straight appearance in this season.

At the middle of the pitch lies Alfred Duncan, whose combative nature proved crucial for AS Sassoulo over Torino in the Serie A. The 22 year old is being flanked by Mubarack Wakasu and Frank Acheampong on either sides.

An attacking trio of Jeff Schlupp and the Ayew brothers will be tasked with the attacking prowess of the team. The ranking of the Premiership favoured the Ayew brothers despite other players souring high for their clubs.

GPL Week Five Preview: All Stars v New Edubiase United

Second placed All Stars will welcome New Edubiase United to the Wa Park on Sunday hoping to keep their unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) going.

With eight points from four games, the Wa based side can return to the top of the table if they win and the result in the Inter Allies/Hearts game at Tema, goes in their favour.

They will therefore seek to pile the pressure of the Phobians by taking full advantage of their home venue against a New Edubiase United side that have not performed well away from their Obuasi base in recent times.

All Stars have won one and drawn the other in their opening two home games at the Wa Park – against Hasaacas and Liberty Professionals respectively, and, will be confident of picking the three points on Sunday.

NEUUnited have lost all of their two away games – against Hearts of Oak in Accra and Bechem United at Bechem, and, will have to improve on their performance if they are to return to base with a point.

GPL Week Five Preview: Inter Allies v Hearts of Oak

Accra Hearts of Oak will hope to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they make the short journey to the port city of Tema to play Inter Allies.

The Phobians will be without playmaker Samudeen Ibrahim, Paul Acquah, Inusah Musah and Richard Yamoah for this Match-Day Five Ghana Premier League game as they are yet to fully recover from respective injuries.

Otherwise, Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi has a full squad to choose from as his table topper go in search of their fourth win of the campaign.

The Phobians have looked impressive in all four games so far, and will be boosted by their 3-1 success over Bechem United in Accra last Sunday.

hearts-of-oakHearts top the standing after four games with 10 points, and will keep that position if they manage a win in this fixture.

Inter Allies will be confident of picking a result from this having remained unbeaten at home so far this season and have not lost in two games.

Coach Herbert Addo has a strong squad to choose from and will count on the form of Ropapa Kwabena Mensah, Gockel Ahortor and Isaac Twum to win this game.

He has built a stable side on his return to the Tema based club and their results have been consistent especially at their favoured astro turf where they have been very formidable.

Last season, the Phobians picked just one point from the available six on offer, including losing 1-2 at Tema. They will seek to make amends this time, but, Allies will have something to say about that.

GPL Week Five Preview: Bechem United v Ebusua Dwarfs

Bechem United will look for their third home win of the season when they welcome Ebusua Dwarfs to the Bechem Park on Sunday in a Ghana Premier League (GPL) Match-Day Five fixture.

The Hunters have won all their home games so far – against Liberty Professionals (2-0) and New Edubiase United (1-0) and will be hopeful of keeping that run going against Dwarfs on Sunday.

They have been very formidable on home soil over the last couple of seasons and should the form of Francis Afriyie, Aminu Mohammed and John Nyamekye, come to play, they could be a handful for the visitors.

United lost badly in Accra against Hearts of Oak 1-3, and will be eager to make amends in this game on Sunday in front of their home fans.

DWARFSDwarfs are still in search of their first win of the campaign, but, their away form have been patchy an inconsistent in recent seasons and could struggle on the day.
