GPL MATCH FACTS AFTER DAY THREE

The 2016 GPL might have suffered legal tussles before finally getting the green light to commence late last month. The young season has however hinted at a very exciting campaign after just three rounds of fixtures in the local scene.


From the total demolition of Sekondi Hasaacas to the continual shut out of Aduana Stars, sports crusader’s Saani Abacha takes a look at the unique numbers generated by the 2016 top flight season after match day three.


1: Only one player has been able to score a treble across the various centers. WAFA SC enterprising winger Samuel Tetteh led the demolition exercise for the Academy boys with a hat-trick at home Sekondi Hasaacas in a 5-0 thumping of the Western giants. Richard Ofori is the only goalie to have kept a clean sheet in each of the three matches played so far.

2: Only two sides are yet to concede in the league after three rounds of actions across the nations. Joint leaders Accra Hearts of oak and Wa All Stars are yet to pick a ball from the back of the net after 270 minute of league action. Interestingly two other sides are also yet to open their accounts, Aduana Stars and Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.

3: Only three clubs have been able to return home with the maximum points across the nation. Wa All Stars ended Aduana Stars 21 match home unbeaten form, Dreams FC returned triumphant from Cape Coast and Hearts of Oak got the better of Medeama SC at Tarkwa. Eric Kumi, Emmanuel Hayford and Lord Ofosuhene are also the only three players to have been sent off so far. Three of the opening spot kicks awarded have also been blown away.

4: The competition highest scorer so far has four goals to his name. Black Stars speedy winger Samuel Tetteh leads the division on four goals.

5: Highest winning margin by any side in the season after 23 league matches. WAFA SC hammered Hasmaal by five unanswered goals at the Sogakope. Five matches have also failed to produce a clear cut winner so far.

6: Most prolific match in the season has seen six goals scored in 90 minutes. Hasaacas responded to their opening mauling with a 4-2 win over Techiman City.

7:Highest scoring club after match day three has seven goals. Sogakope outfit WAFA SC eviscerated Hasaacas to take their tally to 7 in the season.

12: An impressive 12 goals have been scored by away teams in the season so far that has produced three wins in the process.

15: 15 of the 18 matches won in the season have come from the home teams after match three. Also, each of the past three match day has produced exactly 15 goals so far though match day 2 has one outstanding game to be cleared.

18: Total number of matches in the season so far both at home and on the road.

23: number of matches played in the season so far.

33: number of goals scored by teams playing at home after day three.

37: number of different scorers in the season so far.

45: combined number of goals scored in the season so far.
