Fatawu Mohammed says he is bracing himself up for the start of the second round of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) with high hopes when it commences later this month.
Fatawu enjoyed a stellar performance for Accra Hearts of Oak in the first half of the season and is looking forward to extending that run when the next round begins on the weekend of 25/26 June.
“I have been keeping myself in good shape since the league went on break, and, I hope to carry on from where I left off in the first round,” he told the club’s official newspaper, the Hearts News.
The second round of the GPL promises to be competitive as team’s will battle for positions with the aim of finishing high on the ladder at the end of the season, and, this is something Fatawu said he is looking up to.
“Our position on the table at the end of the first round of the competition was good as we finished fourth just two points behind the leaders, and, we look forward to improving on it in the second round,” he said.
“I am aware it will be tough as other teams will also want to challenge for the ultimate, but, we are all in competition, and, I am positive that we will crown our efforts with success at the end of the season,” he added.
Fatawu joined the team as they returned to training on Monday after being given a one week break at the end of the first round.
“I hope my training reflects in my work rate as we have returned to training ahead of the start of the second round of the league,” the right-back said.
He will look to get in perfect condition ahead of Hearts’ first game of the second round against Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 26 June.
On his position in the team, Fatawu promised to continue to work hard to retain his place in the starting team.
“Players will be putting up the challenge for places but I know how hard it must take me to stay in the games so I will continue doing it to retain my place”.
