Chelsea have had an offer of €53m (£45.1m) rejected by Valencia for the signature of Andre Gomes, with the La Liga side not willing to discuss his future for less than €85m (£72.4m), according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The Portugal international enjoyed a reasonable campaign with Los Che in 2015/16, but his reputation has increased tenfold at the EUROs, where he’s been a key cog in his nation’s surprise journey to the final.
As a result of this, interest in his signature has gathered, with Barcelona rumoured to be keen, and reports claim that Chelsea have been active in their pursuit of him by tabling a £45.1m bid.
However, Valencia are not willing to sell for such a ‘low’ fee, and instead want at least £72.4m, which would smash the club record £50m the Blues paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in January 2011.
The 22-year-old is seemingly a player Antonio Conte wants – indeed this isn’t the Londoners’ first offer for him – as he plots to rebuild a Chelsea team that finished in a lowly midtable position last term.
