Golden State Warriors Set NBA Record With 73rd Win

The Golden State Warriors have made NBA history with a record 73 wins in a season by beating Memphis Grizzlies.

The 125-104 win in Oakland means the defending champions surpassed the previous record of 72 set by Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in 1995-96.

Steph Curry also became the first to net more than 400 three-pointers in a season, taking his tally to 402.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who played for the 1996 Bulls team, said: “I never thought anyone would break it.”

Golden State Warriors Need One Win To Break NBA Record

The Golden State Warriors can make NBA history in their final regular-season game after equaling the record number of wins with their 72nd on Sunday.

Seeking to become the first team to win 73, they won at the San Antonio Spurs, who last lost at home in March 2015.

“We’re competitive, we’re hungry,” said Steph Curry, who scored 37 in the California-based team’s 92-86 victory.

Rampant Mighty Warriors lift 2016 Keta Cup

Keta based side Havedzi Mighty Warriors defeated Kogi Confluence from Nigeria 2-0 in a exhilarating encounter at the Aborigines Beach Soccer Arena to win the 2nd edition of the Keta Cup.

The tournament featured the likes of Kogi Confluence (Nigeria),  Team Bricks (Togo) as well as last year’s champions Owibeseb Beach Soccer Club (Nigeria) as part of the Easter celebrations.

Mighty Warriors capitalized on the home support to edge their spirited Nigerians in a thrilling 2-0 win in the final of the tournament’s second edition.

Most Valuable Player of the tournament and Havedzi winger, Alfred Torsu reveled in the dominant performance from his team mates ahead of the resumption of the domestic beach soccer league where they are billed to take on stern rivals Sunset.

“It is going to psyche us up psychologically because we were able to beat them over here and last season when we met them we beat them so we know their weaknesses and if we meet them again we can overcome them again” he told sportscrusader.com.

Experience trainer for the Nigeria National Beach soccer team and head coach of the Kogi Confluence, Ejo Aludo, tagged the triumph over his side as a result of the continual presence of beach soccer league.

Also addressing the media, Nigeria Beach  Soccer National Team and Kogi Confluence coach Awudu Ejo  Adamu said the fact that Ghana has an active Beach soccer league has improved their game.

“Really the game is good because Ghana play a league and Nigeria doesn’t,” he said.

“My team Kogi Confluence is situated in the North of Nigeria and we don’t have a beach, we have to travel seven hours to Badagry to come train and that was three days before this competition which isn’t enough,” he added.

He however says he had his reservations about officiating during the tournament and suggests tournament organisers  update officials on the latest FIFA rules.

“There are some new rules and maybe these rules are not yet available to some officials.

May be FIFA has sent it but the referee could have  collected it from the GFA”, the Nigerian said.

The Ghana Beach Soccer league resumes next week after the Easter break.

Warriors celebrate Curry"s birthday with another historic blowout

The Golden State Warriors have turned nearly every game of their charmed season into a party full of paradigm-shifting three-pointers and league-crushing blowout wins.

Yet Monday’s home game against the New Orleans Pelicans offered another occasion for festivities — the 28th birthday of presumptive back-to-back MVP Stephen Curry. The league’s most dominant player dances all over opponents pretty much every time he takes the court, but he could be forgiven for thinking this night to be extra special.

He and his teammates did not disappoint, riding a 35-19 third quarter to a dominant 125-107 win that allowed the birthday boy to rest the entire final period.

The Warriors improved their record to 60-6 to reach a few milestones, including the ninth back-to-back 60-win seasons in NBA history. Steve Kerr also became the first head coach to win 60 games in each of his first two seasons, although one-time interim head coach Luke Walton may want credit for the first 39 this season.

As ever, it was Curry and fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson who dominated the proceedings. The fun started near the end of the the first quarter when Curry nailed the duo’s 526th three-pointer of the season, a new record for two teammates in a single campaign. He and Thompson made five more threes on the night (and 6-of-13 overall).

They were relatively quiet until the third, though, when Curry helped to overwhelm the Pelicans in a manner seasoned Warriors watchers are now accustomed to.

Golden State held New Orleans to just 10 points through the first 9:30 of the period and saw virtually every player get hot. Curry was obviously one of them, and he made the highlight reel with a rapid-fire shot off a nifty pass from Leandro Barbosa and a gift (get it?!) banked-in three in the closing seconds.

For those keeping track, Bogut is now 2-of-2 on threes as a Warrior. He’s not a Splash Brother, but he’s at least the friend who hangs out at their house often enough to get a free meal every year or two.

It was Curry’s night, though, and he took full advantage. His team-high 27 points matched his highest point total in four career birthday games, including a 25-point showing against the New York Knicks last season. It was apparently a lot of fun, because Curry gave out party favors to some lucky fans with the result well in hand.

The Warriors will go for their 61st win on Wednesday when they welcome the Knicks to Oracle Arena. Maybe we’ll find out if Steph is one of those people who parties his entire birthday week, not just the one day.
