Polo lauds GFA on Endowment Fund

Accra Hearts of Oak legend Mohamed Polo has lauded the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for instituting a special Endowment Fund for retired footballers.

Speaking in an interview, Polo said, the initiative is laudable because it will alleviate the long suffering of retired players.

He said they had over the years called for the establishment of the fund, but due to issues of funding, they were unable to realise it.

“It is however better late than never. Time is not our side because some of us are growing and we have to start benefiting before the maker calls us.

“We need to work harder and get the fund working as early as possible.

“My only challenge is how we are going to raise funds to support the scheme. I trust the Board of Trustees to work hard and initiate measures to make the scheme sustainable.” He noted.

The GFA on Monday, announced a five member Board of Trustees formed to oversee the management of of a special endowment fund for retired footballers.

The committee, is headed by Professor Kwame Karikari, formerly of Media Foundation for West Africa, with veteran coach and former Black Stars player Ibrahim Sunday as the vice chairman.

Other members of the committee includes; Eric Ashitey, lawyer Kweku Eyiah, a member of the Executive Committee of the GFA and Seth Doe Agyin.

The newly formed Board of Trustees has been tasked to oversee the raising of funds and also manage the funds to cater for retired footballers.
