Asamoah Gyan Optimistic of Scoring 50th Goal For Ghana

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan remains confident of scoring his 50th goal in the national team after drawing a blank with Comoros. The 29-year old has raked in 48 strikes for his country and looks set to become the fifth African to have registered half a century of goals with their national teams. Gyan spurned several chances to land that magic number at home to Comoros in the world cup qualification matches but remains confident of joining the legendary African quartet sooner.

The Shenghai SIPG center forward made his 96th appearance in the national colours on Tuesday with the chance to join a glamorous class of four other African players. Godfrey Chitalu, Hossan Hassan, Didier Drogba and four time African player of the year Samuel Eto, are the dream set of players to have reached the 50 goal landmark in national colours. The confident former Sunderland striker, however expressed his optimism to reach that barrier in the next few games.

According to the captain, “I am not worried (for not reaching that milestone) as we have a lot of games left to play. As a striker, I am not worried at all. I believe in my qualities and I know what I am capable of doing. There are more games coming up and I know I am going to make it. I am ready.”

Asamoah Gyan has been the Black Stars’ proven goal poacher in the last couple of years. The former Al Ain center forward registered his first-ever goal for Ghana 12 years ago in a 5-0 thumping of Somalia. He has since registered 48 odd goals including 3 strikes in the calendar year of 2015.
