I"m Fit For Euro 2016 - Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger insists that he is fit to represent Germany at Euro 2016.

The Manchester United midfielder suffered a knee injury when he was on international duty back in March, prematurely ending his domestic season.

But the Germany captain looks set to return to action when the Euros kick off next month.

He told a media conference in Ascona, where he is training with the squad, that he is hopeful of returning to the pitch and leading his side.

“I’m feeling good. I’ve had a lot of communication with the physios and done all they have asked. It’s looking very good and I’m very optimistic. I’ve got to get a bit closer to training with the team, but everything’s going according to plan so far.”

“The good thing is I know how to deal with tough situations and I’ve got to be optimistic.

“There is a plan for me and I’m following it precisely hour by hour. It worked two years ago at the World Cup, when I think I was in a worse position than now.”

Germany continue their preparations for the Euros with friendlies against Slovakia and Hungary over the next two weekends.

Their tournament begins against the Ukraine in Group C on Sunday 12 June.
