Ghana Given Hope As Holland Drop Fosu-Mensah

Ghana’s hope of winning Tim Fosu-Mensah’s nationality battle with the Netherlands was given a major boost as the Manchester United versatile defender has been dropped from the squad called for an international friendly.

The Manchester United youngster was called up to the senior squad for the first time earlier this month but will not make his debut for the time being.

Coach Danny Blind revealed the teenager is struggling, but said he would be in contention again in the future, report the Manchester Evening News.

The 18-year-old received his first call-up into the Netherlands’ senior squad earlier this month but was left out of the final selection by coach Danny Blind since he is still recovering from injury.

Blind said he was looking forward to seeing him in action and he would be in contention for future squads.

He said: “Timothy is eighteen. There’s a lot come down on him in recent weeks. The reward for this was a place on the shortlist. I wanted him in the final selection, but you have to be fit. And he’s not one hundred percent fit at the moment.

“That’s too bad. I wanted to see him, but I hope I can still see him at work after the summer.”

It had been thought the 18-year-old could be set for an international tug-of-war for his services, with Ghana reportedly trying to encourage him to switch allegiances.
