Napoli’s Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuaín is one of the most coveted names for the upcoming transfer window.
Gonzalo Higuain, formerly of Real Madrid, is attracting attention from some big clubs in European after a great season with Italian side Napoli.
British newspaper Daily Mirror reported that Chelsea would be ready to make a £42 million bid for the Argentine in the summer transfer window.
The signing of Higuaín is believed to be a request by Italian coach Antonio Conte, who will take charge at Stamford Bridge from next season.
Conte currently manages the national side of Italy, and will lead the team during the European Championships.
According to the publication, Higuaín welcomes the possibility of playing for Chelsea, even though the club wouldn’t be participating in the UEFA Champions League next season.
However, the attacker wouldn’t be interested in staying as a back up for Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa, and hence need assurances from the Blues that he will be a starter.
Meanwhile, striker Diego Costa continues to receive inquiries from other clubs.
The newspaper adds that Diego Costa would have a proposal from China offering him weekly wages of £300,000.
In addition to the Asian market, there is also interest from La Liga side Atlético Madrid who are considering bringing back the 27-year-old to Spain.
