Former national triple jump record holder, Andrew Owusu has lashed a scathing attack on the Professor Francis Duodu led Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) on their damning running of the Association.
Ghana is struggling to make the numbers to represent the nation at the Rio Olympics later this year with 100m runners Fling Owusu Adjapong, Shaun Sarfo-Mensah, 800m athlete, Alex Amankwah and John Owusu Ampomah being the qualified athletes so far for the games.
And Owusu believes the total neglect by the current executives of the GAA of local talents and focusing solely on Ghanaian athletes abroad only will destroy the interest in the sport by young aspiring athletes.

Owusu (who is Professor Doudu’s right hand man) in replying to a statement attributed to an official of the GAA that no locally based Ghanaian athlete can qualify to the Rio Olympics, said, this is a shame to hear from an officer of the Ghana Athletic Association (GAA). If such statement come from executives why then organise competitions here to get athletes make the time and qualify for the Olympic games if they won’t qualify and waste the time of the athletes.”
“It is pathetic and sad but it is about time Francis Duodu and his executives ran the Association from abroad since they fancy selecting athletes from outside the country.
The GAA has failed and government led by the Sports Minister should frown on this and act on grooming local athletes such as Martha Bissah and I dare you in four years we might have worthy champions representing the country,” he added.
