Wa All Stars Breaks 30 Year Old League Record

Wa All Stars midfielder Mathew Kelvin Andoh broke a 30 year old record at the Ohene Ameyaw Park on Sunday when he became the first player to score a Premier League goal not from the home side.

The 21 year old registered the consolation strike for his side in their 1-3 defeat at the dreaded ‘den’ on Match-Day 11 of the 2016 Ghana Premier League (GPL). The last time an opponent scored a top flight goal against a Techiman based side dates back to 1986 against Holy Stars.

The then Premier League side got relegated that very season leaving the dreaded venue to the wilderness of second tier football until the arrival of Techiman City FC, known in the football family as ‘ Enemies are not God’.

Techiman City made a dream start to the campaign with five straight clean sheets at home, but, could do little to prevent Mathew Kelvin Andoh from opening his season’s account in that defeat.

Goals from Ebenezer Agyapong and Stephen Manu put the hosts two goals up before Andoh registered the first goal from an opposition player in over 500 minutes of league action at Techiman.

The former Aswin attacking midfielder then came close to doubling his tally but found the side net with another pile driver.

“I actually have no idea of this before scoring that goal. All I wanted was to win in Techiman and maintain our place at the top of the league,”he said.

“It is always good when you score especially when your goals win you matches. All the same it is something I should be proud of as a player. We will get back to the drawing board and prepare for WAFA next week,” Kelvin Andoh told Sportscrusader.com.

The gargling midfielder remains an integral member of the record breaking Wa All Stars side that look set to end their nine year wait for domestic glory.

With this defeat, they drop to second on he log with 20 points, one behind new leaders Hearts of Oak who beat Berekum Chelsea 1-0 at the Golden City Park to maintain their unbeaten away record.

Techiman City moved to the fourth spot after their win over the then league leaders.
