Senegal Qualify for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations

Senegal have mathematically confirmed their qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals after claiming a 2-0 away win over Burundi on Saturday.

The Teranga Lions were already all but certain of a place in the Gabon tournament thanks to four successive wins in Group K, but they made absolutely sure with a victory at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura.

Southampton attacker Sadio Mane put the West Africans ahead in the 16th minute, and their advantage was doubled a few minutes before by the break by Stoke City’s Mame Biram Diouf.

The Ternaga Lions were able to hang onto their lead in the second half and settled for a 2-0 victory – a fifth straight win in the group for Alious Cisse’s side.

Senegal will wrap up their qualification campaign with their final match at home to Namibia in September, while Burundi will be away to Niger.
