TP Mazembe’s Ghanaian import Solomon Asante has dedicated his club’s opening day victory in the CAF confederation cup over Medeama SC.
The demunitive former Berekum Chelsea attacking midfielder lost his senior brother Richard Asante hours to their clash with the Ghanaian FA Cup holders.
The black stars hotshot however withstood the mental trauma to play a starring role for the Congolese in an eventful 3-1 win over the Yellow and Mauves from Ghana.
Free kick expert Malik Akowuah opened the scoring for Medeama but three strikes from the reigning CAF Champions league holders turned the scores in favour of Mois Katumpe’s men inside the noisy Lubumbashi stadium on Sunday.
Richard Asante, 38, fell unconscious and was rushed to the Wiawso hospital on Thursday but gave up the ghost on sunday moments to the kick off in DR Congo.
Speaking to www.sportscrusader.com on the emotional state faced him ahead of kick off, Solomon Asante dedicated the win to his late brother and asked for God’s savours on him.
“It is a day of mixed feeling for me as a player to contain. I was very happy playing against my compatriots in a continental assignment like the confederation cup only to be informed about my brother’s death in the build up to the game. I dedicate our first win to my late brother and call for the mercies of God on him. It is a day I cannot forget in my entire life even after football. Till we meet some times to come may the Good lord be with him eternally”, Asante breifed sports crusader.
The pocket size former Berekum Chelsea remains a key cog in the TP Mazembe size that stormed their way to the 2015 CAF Champions league glory before nagging injuries truncated his start to the current season.
