Alhassan Wakasu sent off in a cup tie

Rio Aves Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso was sent off during his sides Portuguese cup clash with Belenenses.


The 24 year old picked two yellow cards in a space of four minutes at home in the Taca da Liga second gruop stages.


Rio Aves dropped points to the struggling visitors in a thrilling 1-1 game at the Estadio Do Rio Aves FC.


The midfielder was making his 75th competitive appearance for his Portuguese paymasters since his arrival from Portimonense in the second tier league.


A late tackle on the 77th minute earned Wakasu his 11th booking of the season only for the defensive screen to enter the referees book four minutes later.


Wakasu added to his earlier caution with nine minutes to go with another misjudged tackle to leave his colleagues numerically disadvantaged.


Portuguese midfielder Ricardo Dias however balanced the books as he followed his Ghanaian opponet out of the pitch two minutes later.


Filip Krovinovic shot Rio Aves into a 58th minute lead but Tiago Silva’s thunderbolt shared honours at the Estadio do Rio. The home side however still remains in the hunt with 4 points from the opening 2 games behind the perfect SC Braga on top of the log in the cup srcond round of fixtures.


Wakasu has been an ever present figure for Rio with 21 appearances to his name already.
