Ghana Premier League club, Berekum Chelsea has withdrawn their membership from the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), the mother body of all premier league clubs in the country.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Nana Kwame Nketiah says the decision to break away from GHALCA is in solidarity with Aduana Stars who withdrew their membership from all GHALCA organised competitions apart from the Premier League in the wake of President of the Association, Alhaji Raji’s stereotypical comments before Sunday’s G-6 finals.
Alhaji Raji is alleged to have labelled Aduana Stars ‘village team’ who do not deserve to win the maiden edition GHALCA Six invitational tournament held in Sekondi.
His alleged comments did not go down well with Aduana Stars, who petitioned the body for the resignation of Alhaji Raji as Chairman of the Association amd threatened to withdraw from their membership.
And Berekum Chelsea, in solidarity with their sister club, has suspended their membership.
“The board of Chelsea met yesterday and a decision has been taken- we are not going to be part of GHALCA again, no conditions have been set, we will not rescind it,” Nana Kwame is quoted by GazzettaGhana.com.
“We will inform the Ghana FA of our decision through writing today, and also make sure that GHALCA as a body does not get any percentage from the future transfer of our players abroad- because they cannot enjoy monies from the sale of village players.”
“The comments he (Alhaji Raji) passed are very very demeaning not only on Aduana but everybody from that part of the country including all of us.”
“Berekum Chelsea as a club will not leave Aduana Stars to stand alone in this battle, we will fight with they and make sure the authorities accord as the respect needed because these things have persisted for far too long.” He added
