The 2016 G-6 Invitational Tournament will kick off at exactely 4:00pm today at the Essipong sports stadium with some exciting opening day fixtures.
First on the bill will be defending league champions Ashantigold and Berekum Chelsea and this is match both teams will not want to lose for any reason.
Chelsea, by virtue of finising the season 4th on the league table qualified to play in this comepetition and as such they will not be pushovers, especially not when they have a certain goal king in the person of Kofi Owusu who practically carried the team on its shouldr banging in well over 20 goals in all competitions.
They also have in their midst several players who can change the course of a game to their favour and that will be their trumpcard against the much experienced and compact Ashantigold side who are out to prove that their win of the league trophy is no fluke.
Coach Bashir Hayford and his charges recieved a rude awakening after the season as they endured a painful 1-0 defeat at the hands of Asante Kotoko in the 2015 SWAG Cup match playd at the Baba Yara stadium. Since then, they have been quiet in terms of preparation for the next football season as well as the upcoming CAF Champions League.
It will be a match won from the bench as any Club that is able to hold its opponent from scoring and manages to score will win the day.
The second match of the day between Accra Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars will genrally generate much interest from football fans who will be trooping to the stadium in their numbers.
The Phobians are not in the best of shapes this preseason and have been in the news for all the wrong reasons for some time now. They are undrr a new set of technical team which is gradually picking up in terms of winning matches this offseason.
Head coach of the Club Kenichi Yatsuhashi, is sitting on a time bomb as he has been tasked by the Club’ Board to win the tournament or face the sack, and he will be eager to save his job by recording a good win over Aduana who look very confident at the moment, especially with the aquisition of players such as Yahaya Mohammed, Richard Mpong among others.
Aduana Stars have also vowed to teach the Phobians some valuable lessons tonight, with some of the players going as far as predicting 3 or more goals.
Come what may, the G-6 Invitational Tournament has come to stay and today’s fixtures coupled with the performances and results will pave way for a very good tournament.
