Ghana’s Samuel “Bruno” Amoako (21-9, 15 KO’s) will test his strength against Ugandan Sheriff “The Lion” Bogere (27-1, 19 KO’s) at the Armory, Washington, DC, on April 30th in a lightweight contest.
The two African pugilists will be defending national pride when they meet on neutral territory. Amoako will enter the bout riding a five-fight losing streak against a slew of up and comers. The 31-year-old veteran hasn’t won a bout since a 2014 third round stoppage of Sulemah Adams in Accra, Ghana.
Bogere will be the decided favorite going in. Best known for his formidable power and pre-fight antics that includes entering the ring in a lion’s mask, the Ugandan recently signed on to Mayweather Promotions, who will be the promoter of record on this night.
Bogere has rebounded nicely since his 2013 decision loss to then-WBA lightweight champion Richar Abril and will look to continue his winning ways next weekend.
The card will feature a salivating double-header, with fast-rising Brit James DeGale defending his IBF super middleweight title against Rogelio Medina before Badou Jack defends his WBC super middleweight crown against dangerous former champ Lucian Bute in the main event.
