The Hi performance Clinic for U-13 boys of the Volta Regional Cricket Association was held at the Ho Kpodzi Basic school park over the weekend.
The program which was put together by the Ghana Cricket Association in their quest to equip young boys with the necessary skills in Batting, Bowling and Fielding saw 40 boys from 3 communities in the Volta Region.
The Association expected 36 but had to register 40 due to the fact that, the excess number didn’t only show interest but have the capabilities of becoming great Cricket players and such ambitions can’t be dashed.
Eugene King and Lawrence Ahadzi with the help of the Volta Coaches took the boys through the necessary skills.
The Clinic will also help the Volta Association to form their regional team which will represent the region at inter regional tournaments in the future.
Addressing the media after the event, Cricket Development officer of the Ghana Cricket Association, Mr. Eugene King said that his outfit have achieved their purpose of letting the participating children realize the need to go on the extra mile to upgrade upon their skills.
“It’s the first ever Hi Performance for Volta and I will say, we have achieved our purpose. The children themselves have realized the need to go on the extra mile. They need to upgrade upon their skills to be able to challenge their colleagues in Accra and other parts of the country. So this is the beginning and they’ve realized that they have to apply the necessary skills and need to be serious”, he said.
“The Coaches and teachers, I have realized that, they need to give the children the right techniques so that they don’t deviate. If they don’t do that and the children learn the wrong thing, it becomes extremely difficult to correct them. So at this tender age, I think we need to spend time on them to teach them the right skills so that when they grow up, it will become easier for them to play the various strokes”, Mr. King added.
