The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has made a proposal for former Presidents of the country to honour this year’s President’s Cup.
GHALCA, organizers of the annual cup competition which is played in honour of the sitting President of the country on Republic day (July 1), wants the format changed.
According to sources, playing the competition in honour of only the sitting president is political, and the association intends to take politics out of the game.
Sportscrusader.com can confirm that Chairman of GHALCA, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo met the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye on June 1 and made the proposal which was embraced by the former GBC broadcast journalist.
Sources say the Sports Minister promised to convey the message to the presidency before giving them the greenlight to invite the former presidents.
It is unclear if the Minister has forwarded the proposal from the hierarchy of GHALCA, but they are certain they will receive a positive feedback to go ahead to invite them.
If GHALCA are giving the go ahead to invite the former presidents, they would have succeeded in using football to bring political parties together.
