Liquid Ghana To Award Outstanding Athletes

www.liquidsportsghana.com is proud to announce the first ever annual Ghana athletics award dubbed, the ‘Liquid Sports Ghana Athlete of the Year’ to honour and give recognition to deserving athletes.


The award is aimed at throwing the spot light on both male and female national athletes who excel in representing the country both locally and internationally to inspire the younger generation.


Ghana athletics has enjoyed one of its most successful season’s in recent times after the national athletics team won an impressive eight medals at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville.

The sport witnessed as many as 9 competitions locally last year coupled with an impressive array of performances both locally and international.


But the sport is yet to fully receive the recognition it deserves in the sporting fraternity in Ghana.


The award aims at telling the story of Ghanaian athletes in the past year, noting their achievements, sacrifices and efforts to go beyond their limits using both the print and electronic media.


Criteria for Selection


The nominees for the inaugural award will include athletes with high score performances, the athletes who won medals at the 2015 All Africa Games and 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) and the athletes who broke a national record.


Below are the major criteria that will be considered when selecting the best athletes in Ghana:

– IAAF scoring points for 2015’s best performance


– 2015 World Ranking (using Tilastopaja)


– 2015 African Ranking (using Tilastopaja)


– Medal won in 2015


– National record broken in 2015

Only athletes who are not subject to doping violations and a clean disciplinary record will be considered for the award.


It is the hope of the organisers of that the award will give the sport the needed scope and visibility to enhance the image of the sport.


Among other things, one of the goals of the award is to help deepen the understanding of the sport among journalists, athletes and the general public.

The list also be based on the Ghana Athletics Association’s Rankings for 2015.

Voting Process for Liquid Sports Ghana


Athlete of the Year Award:


Here is how the voting process for the 2015 Liquid Sports Ghana Athlete of the Year will be conducted.


A list of the top athletics performances including both men and women –will firstly be selected by a panel of experts* using the Ghana Athletics Association’s end of year ranking.


From those finalists, the voting panel made up of local and international journalists, athletes, coaches, administrators and a select group of experts will select the male and female Liquid Sports Ghana Athletes of the Year respectively.


The top three athletes from the poll will be announced after which the final rankings will be released to the general public through
