New Absa champions, Mamelodi Sundowns left it late to hammer Ghana premier league (GPL) side, Medeama SC in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup play-off at the Lucas Moripe stadium.
Medeama opened the scoring courtesy of Eric Kwakwa under one minute, but a six minute quick goals from Castro, Billiat and Malajila late into the game were enough to earn Pitso Mosiname boys the advantage ahead of the second leg in Essipong.
Medeama the game brightly and before Sundowns could blink an eye, Eric Kwakwa sent them mopping the turf with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box.
Sundowns from the early shocker, but were unable to draw level despite creating the best opportunisties in the game.
The second half was more of end to end action with both sides creating chances, but lacked the final touch to either equalise or cushion the lead.
However, on the 81st minute, Learnado Castro who was a thorn on Medeama’s flesh, grabbed the equaliser with well thumped header beyond Muntari Tagoe who was not well positioned.
Medeama poured forward in attempt to regain their lead, but Akwasi Donsu lost possession and Sundowns broke at the right flank with Billiat. Sarpong raced to cover up and he was beaten by Absa ten times league goal scorer this season before he expertly lobbed the ball over Tagoe.
A disarray Medeama missery was compounded by Malajila on the 87th minute, completing the comeback they craved for and earning them the advantage ahead of the second leg in next week.
