Grants Receives Stern Warning

Executive Committee member of the Ghana FA and Black Stars management committee, Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, has said they won’t accept any excuses from Black Stars head coach, Avram Grant, should the team fail to annex the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in Gabon next year.

Grant has, in a pre-match interview prior to Ghana’s last AFCON qualifying match against Rwanda last Saturday, admitted his worry about the adverse effect the rift between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth Sports will have on the players.

The players were forced into purchasing their air tickets to honour the recent invitation to play for Ghana, and this, Grant believes, might lead to a repetition of the shame that the country endured at the 2014 Brazil World cup.

Palmer, speaking in an interview with Joy FM, admitted the former Chelsea boss has no reason to return from Gabon without the title.

“He (Avram Grant) is fully aware of that, considering the environmental factors, finance is one of the major hurdles that a country like Ghana will be confronted with and over the period, we have not hidden any of our financial predicaments from him and he’s fully aware.

“Avram cannot come out with any excuse with relation to the fact that due to whatever reasons, that’s why he could not win the Africa Cup of Nations. What he has to concern himself with, is the assurance we (as management) have given him for him to concentrate purely on the technical aspect of the team.”

Grant will later today, instruct the team from the bench as they play against Russia in an international friendly.
