Astana’s Ghanaian forward, Patrick Twumasi has attributed his club’s performances in the UEFA Champions League to the competitive nature of the Kazakhstani Premier League.
The youngster whose side made history by becoming the first Kazakhstan club to play in the Group stages of the UEFA Champions League last season will be seeking to repeat the feat when they take on Lithuanian side Žalgiris in the playoffs on Wednesday.
And speaking in an interview with Starr FM in Accra, Twumasi noted that the competitive nature of the Kazakhstan league is a true reflection of his team’s advancement.
“The league is competitive and is really tough”, he said.
“Sometimes when u look at it, you will think is so easy but it’s really of high quality because if not, we could not have qualified to the group phase of the UEFA Champions league”, the young forward added.
Patrick Twumasi’s form for Astana last season did not go unnoticed as the striker received a first ever Black Stars call up for the AFCON 2017 qualifier against Mozambique in Maputo.
The 22-year old however, will have to wait for a little longer for his senior debut after Ghana Coach Avram Grant failed to play him.
