Toure Excluded As Manchester City Announce Champions League Squad

Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure has been left out of Premier League side Manchester City’s Champions League list for the 2016/2017 season.

Toure has featured in one occasion so far for Manchester City this season, which was against Steaua Bucharest in the second leg of the Champions League preliminary rounds, the game that ended 1-0 in the favour of The Citizens.

Pep Guardiola has announced his 21-man Manchester City squad that is set to take on the team’s Champions League campaign this season, with the 33-year-old omitted from the list submitted to UEFA.

This exclusion increases doubts over the Ivorian midfielder’s future at Manchester City, which was already existing ever since the former Bayern Munich manager took over as the new Manchester-based club coach earlier this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Toure will see out his contract with City which expires next summer or seek a move out of the club in January.

Yaya Toure Withdraws From Ivory Coast Squad

Manchester City’s Yaya Toure has withdrawn from the Ivory Coast squad amidst injury fears, the midfielder felt the heel problem during the Manchester derby led to his decision to return to international football.

Toure has been withdrawn from the Ivory Coast squad over fears that his heel injury has re-occurred as he was previously included in their set-up for the first time since they won the trophy last year.

He had made broad hints that he might retire from international football last summer, but in the end left it hanging in the air.

In November he suggested he would return to playing for his country and kept his word when given the call by coach Michel Dussuyer. But City had reservations about him turning out in a double-header against Sudan, currently ahead of the reigning champions in their qualifying group.

And when he felt pain in his troublesome heel again during Sunday’s derby defeat, the City medical team requested that he should be withdrawn from the squad.

Toure missed the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool with the problem and then suffered a recurrence which kept him out of the goalless draw at Norwich.
