Rio 2016 : Paralympic Committee Appeals For Support

The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana has called for support for their disabled athletes ahead of the Paralympic games that kick-starts on the 7th of September 2016.

Ghana had three of its athletes qualify to the mega sports event, namely; Charles Teye Narh(Power Lifter), Alem Mumumi (Cyclist) and Yussif Amadu (Long Jumper).

In a press conference to launch their appeal for funds, the President of the NPC, Bishop Atta Agyei Koffie, pleaded for immediate support prior to the impending games, which is less than two weeks away, as they have found it difficult securing sponsorship for their trip.

He said; “We plead to all major corporations including the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) and GN Bank to come to our aid, and we hope as they did for the able-bodied athletes, they will do same for us.

“The difficulty in securing sponsorship has had a deterring effect on our preparations for the games, but we hope to acquire support as soon as possible.”

The President concluded that, Mumuni and Charles Teye Narh are already in the USA, preparing vigorously for the game  and they are hopeful that Amadu will join them soon if they are able to secure sponsorship for the trip.
