FC Ifeanyi Ubah Explain Reasons For Canceling Kotoko Friendly

Officials of Ifeanyi Ubah FC, have explained why the technical team decided to cancel the much heralded preseason international club friendly match against Asante Kotoko.

The Nigerian Premier League side who are on a preseason tour, were scheduled to play Asante Kotoko tomorrow Wednesday at the Baba Yara stadium at 5pm, but on Monday, the match was canceled.

The had already played and lost 2-0 to Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday and many Kotoko fans were thrilled with the prospect of playing them.

In an interview with officials of the Club, they mentioned that the defeat to Hearts of Oak made them realize that there was a lot of work to be done by the technical team in respect to building a team for the coming season in the Nigeria Premier League.

“The Hearts of Oak match is the first the coach (Mitko Dobrev) has supervised since taking over and also the players are about 80% new to the team so it will take time for them to know each other.”

“That is why we decided that it will not be good to play a top Club like Asante Kotoko for now. We are going to be training and playing a few matches with some smaller division Clubs until such a time that we can confidently say that we are ready to face the Ghanaian ‘big boys’ like Kotoko and Ashantigold”, Mark Oyobo, a member of the Ifeanyi Ubah fc officials mentioned exclusively to sportscrusader.com.

The Porcupines have been playing friendly matches in wait for the season that has been unduly delayed. The team has so far played 11 trial matches faring well not just in terms of performance but also recording impressive wins.

Last Sunday, they posted a confident 2-0 win over Bechem United and expextations are that, they would keep their winning form throughout the league season.

The Ghana Football Association last week announced that, the Premier League will start on February 20 and when it does, Kotoko will certainly be the team to beat.
