Jamie Vardy Charged By Football Association

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy faces an extended ban during the Premier League title run-in after being charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

Vardy, 29, remonstrated with referee Jon Moss after he was shown a red card in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham.

The FA has also charged Leicester with failing to control their players after West Ham won an 83rd-minute penalty.

Vardy and Leicester have until 18:00 BST on Thursday to respond.

Vardy, the Premier League’s joint leading scorer with 22 goals this season, was shown a second yellow card early in the second half for diving.

He appeared to confront Moss – who was criticised for his performance by Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer – before leaving the field.

The England international receives an automatic one-match ban for his dismissal, but that looks likely to be increased following the FA charge.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa was given an additional one-match ban and was fined £20,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct last month.

The 27-year-old was punished for his reaction to his sending-off against Everton in an FA Cup tie on 12 March.

Arsenal defender Gabriel was also banned for one match, and given a £10,000 fine, after admitting the same charge in September.

Premier League leaders Leicester need eight points from their final four matches to guarantee the title.

The Foxes’ final four matches are against Swansea (home), Manchester United (away), Everton (home) and Chelsea (away).

Martin Demichelis Charged Over Betting Offences

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged by the Football Association over alleged betting offences.

The Argentine, 35, is accused of committing 12 breaches relating to matches between 22 and 28 January 2016.

Demichelis has until 17:00 BST on 5 April to respond to the charge.

However, there is no suggestion that the charge relates to any of the 25 league and cup games in which he has featured for City this season.

New rules which came into force at the start of the 2014-15 season mean players and coaches are prevented from betting on any worldwide footballing activity.

The FA has the power to fine or suspend the player.

Manchester United & Liverpool Charged By UEFA

Manchester United and Liverpool have been charged by UEFA following crowd trouble during the Europa League last-16 second leg at Old Trafford.

Rival fans were seen fighting in the stands, seats were thrown and flares were lit at Thursday’s 1-1 draw, during which five men were arrested.

Both clubs have been charged with crowd disturbances and throwing of objects.

Liverpool, who won 3-1 on aggregate, have been charged with illicit chants and the setting off of fireworks.

The case will be heard by UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body on 19 May, the day after the Europa League final in Basel.

Before Thursday’s match, police had to remove a banner on the M602 motorway in Salford designed to taunt Liverpool fans heading to Old Trafford.

United were not punished by UEFA after some of their fans sang offensive Hillsborough disaster chants during the first leg at Anfield.
